Commercial and Industrial Parkland Dedication Resolution
On April 7, 2022, Austin City Council passed a resolution directing the City Manager to expand parkland dedication to commercial and industrial developments. The item and its backup can be found on the Austin City Council site.
RECA pushed for and was successful in securing several amendments were passed in the form of Council direction to staff that would require engagement with the development community, an analysis of the legality of the item, and potential exploration of how commercial requirements would interact with residential requirements.
Joint Letter Opposed to Commercial and Industrial Parkland Dedication (April 2022)
Ahead of the April 7 vote by City Council, RECA, the Downtown Austin Alliance, and the Austin Apartment Association jointly sent a letter to City Council asking them to oppose Item 42, a resolution to explore parkland dedication for commercial and industrial developments.
The item passed, but the points in our letter made it into the final passed version of the resolution in the form of amendments.
