RECA Statement on May 2021 Proposition B

The Real Estate Council of Austin supports reinstatement of the camping ban and will continue to work with the City of Austin and other entities to implement better and more sustainable housing options, mental health support, and other wraparound support services. We acknowledge that the reinstatement of the camping ordinance alone does not contribute to the solution to those experiencing homelessness.  The reinstatement of the camping ordinance compels the City to take decisive action towards developing multi-layered solutions. Removing camping in streets, highways, parkland, and even private property is the first step towards increasing safety for everyone in Austin. RECA is committed to finding housing for our homeless neighbors and continuing to participate in the solution process.
