Elections

March 2024 Primary Elections

Primary elections are often low-turnout events, but are critically important because they often determine the winner of the general election since many districts in Texas heavily favor one party over another. Every vote is critical to ensuring RECA-endorsed candidates win their election.
  • Early Voting: February 20 through March 1, 2024
  • Primary Election Day: March 5, 2024

Who’s on the ballot?
There are races at the federal, state, county, and local level on the primary ballot.

Who has RECA endorsed?
RECA has endorsed several candidates in each primary, focused primarily on state and local races. The RECA voter guide has both a Republican primary guide as well as a Democratic primary guide. RECA has not endorsed candidates for all races in the primaries.

Where can I vote?
Polling locations are set by the counties—you can find the Travis County locations here, the Williamson County locations here, and the Hays County locations here.
You may vote at any polling location in your county.

Do I have to be a registered Democrat/Republican to vote in the primary?
Texas has open primaries, which means all Texas voters can participate in either the Republican or Democratic primaries.
Voting in one party’s primary election does NOT commit you to vote for a particular party or candidate in the November general election. You can still vote for any candidate of your choice, regardless of party, in the general election.

The Real Estate Council of Austin encourages all its members and all Austin-area voters to participate in their local democracy and to vote in the March 2024 primary election.
