SCHEDULE

8:00 – 9:30 am: Registration & Opening Breakfast
Inside the President's Bunker on 9/11 - Crisis Leadership & Decision Making
Since the RECA Exchange takes place on September 11, we're honored to have Lt. Col. Robert Darling speak at our Opening Breakfast. Lt. Col. Darling directly supported our country's key leadership in the underground Presidential bunker during the events of 9/11 and he'll share the principles of crisis leadership and decision making with an edge-of-your-seat presentation that will take you from the moment the attack was realized, to the courageous decisions made to stop it, to the safeguards and policies our country now has in-place in an attempt to prevent it from ever happening again.

  • Lieutenant Colonel Robert J. Darling, USMC (Ret)

9:45 - 10:30 am: Educational Breakout Sessions

Surviving in an Evolving Retail Market
Every year there’s talk about Austin’s retail bubble “bursting” and there's a lot of speculation about potential doom and gloom — but why hasn’t it materialized? Austin’s retail market knows how to adapt – and our city continues to enjoy an evolving and thriving retail market. Our panel of local and national retail leaders will share their experiences and talk about the latest trends and where they see the market heading.

  • Ben Bufkin, Principal, Endeavor Real Estate Group
  • Mark Masinter, Managing Member, Open Realty Advisors
  • Rob Shands, Partner, RedLeaf Properties

Why are Companies Choosing to Expand in Austin?
We've heard about all the lists: Austin is the best place to live in U.S., Austin is the second-best place to start a business, Austin is one of the top 10 destinations for job movers — and on and on. There's no doubt other major cities wish they had the same appeal Austin has, but what truly is it about our city that's leading some of our country's largest employers make big investments? Our panel representing well-known and rapidly growing businesses will share their perspectives and why they ultimately decided to expand in Austin.

  • Gerardo Interiano, Head of Local Market Staffing, Google
  • Heather Paffe, Director of External Affairs, Merck
  • Susan Harris, President, Site Solutions, Inc. (moderator)

10:30 – 11 am: Networking/Coffee Break

11 – 11:45 am: Educational Breakout Sessions
Repeat of First Breakout Sessions

Did you have a hard time choosing from the earlier breakout sessions? We'll be repeating them so you have the chance to attend any two of the above sessions.

Noon – 1 pm: Keynote Lunch
Army Futures Command

For the first time, the Army will place a major command within an urban setting instead of a military base. The goal? To bring itself closer to technology innovators and researchers in our growing community. Be among the first to hear the inside story about the Army's decision to open their new Futures Command Center in Austin and how the move represents the most significant restructuring of the service since the 1970s.

  • Lieutenant General Paul Ostrowski, Director of Combat Systems, Army Futures Command
