Christmas in October 2018 a Success — Raises Over $52,000 for the Austin Nature & Science Center
On October 27, 2018 approximately 200 volunteers from RECA convened to renovate interior and exterior spaces at the City-operated Austin Nature & Science Center, which provides thousands of children each year with hands-on educational experiences and recreational activities that increase their awareness and appreciation for the natural environment.
RECA’s Christmas in October Committee spent more than six months developing detailed renovation plans, fundraising and gathering the necessary tools and machinery for the big day. The committee successfully raised more than $53,000 in both monetary and in-kind donations for the project. The largest projects included major flood mitigation at the historic pre-school, building new habitats for the animal exhibits and re-doing all of the glass in the solarium, which serves as a centerpiece of the facility. General trail maintenance, fence repair and extensive painting were also completed. Check out the photos from the even here and the recap video here.
Since RECA's founding in 1991, our annual Christmas in October project has served dozens of local community groups in need, contributing more than $2 million in cash and in-kind donations throughout the process.
